Midlantic-breds solid at Fasig-Tipton yearling sale
Yearlings bred in the Mid-Atlantic made a strong showing at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearling Sale on September 30 in Timonium, led by Maryland-breds, who accounted for more than half of the sale’s gross.
Of the 161 yearlings sold for a total of $4,978,100, Maryland-breds dominated the market, with 89 youngsters bringing $3,056,700. Their average price of $34,345 was just above the overall sale average of $30,920, and the group’s median matched the sale median of $20,000. A Maryland-bred also topped the entire sale, commanding $370,000.
Virginia-breds made their presence felt with 10 yearlings grossing $590,000. Their $59,000 average was the highest of any state represented, buoyed by a $190,000 top seller.
Pennsylvania-breds also turned in solid numbers, with 24 sold for $497,000. Their $20,000 median equaled the sale median, and the group’s top yearling brought $57,000.
Smaller consignments from New Jersey and West Virginia produced steady returns. Three New Jersey-breds averaged $25,000 apiece, while two West Virginia-bred yearlings averaged $20,000.
