Mid-Atlantic three stars: September 30, 2025

Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.

Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:

REGION’S BEST

FIRST STAR: REGALED. Formerly based in the Mid-Atlantic, Regaled returned to the region on Sunday for Delaware Park’s feature race, the Delaware Handicap. She rallied from last to win by 6 1/4 lengths going away for her first stakes victory. She was no stranger to stakes company, however, having finished second or third in six stakes races, including the Delaware Oaks at 71-1 last year. Previously campaigned by owner Brittnee Caballero and trainer Sam Davis, she was purchased by current owners Ribbie Farms and Front Page Equestrian LLC for $300,000 at the Inglis Digital US sale in May and transferred to trainer Will Walden. She ran the 1 1/8 miles of the DelCap in 1:50.94 over a muddy track under Joseph Ramos.

SECOND STAR: COOKE CREEK. One race later on Sunday, Delaware hosted the Battery Park Stakes for older males, with a boosted purse of $200,000. Cooke Creek, who was second in the Lukas Classic last year but was unplaced in four stakes tries since then, got back on the board with a victory. Jaime Rodriguez put him on the lead right away from the inside post position and never looked back, cruising to a three-length, gate-to-wire victory in 1:50.81. It was his first stakes win in almost four years, following a victory in the 2021 Rocky Run Stakes on this track. He’s owned by Flying P Stable and trained by Mike Maker.

THIRD STAR: SILVER SLUGGER. The first of three stakes races on the Sunday card at Delaware was the Wilmington Stakes for older males at six furlongs. Silver Slugger improved to 7-for-12 on the year with a gate-to-wire victory by a neck. He set an opening quarter in the mud of 22.37 and a first half in 45.57. He shook off a challenge from Showstopper Copper and held the lead by a length in the stretch, then withstood another bid from Ninja Warrior to secure the win, completing the distance in 1:11.14. It’s his second stakes win of the year, following a victory in the Rumson Stakes at Monmouth Park last out. He’s owned by Victoria’s Ranch, trained by Juan Avila, and ridden by Sonny Leon.

LAUREL PARK

FIRST STAR: ULTIMATE LOVE. Improved to 3-for-3 lifetime with an impressive 4-length win in Saturday’s Selima Stakes for 2-year-old fillies on the grass.

SECOND STAR: PROTON. Handled the stretchout to two turns with ease in the Laurel Futurity earlier on the Saturday card.

THIRD STAR: TOP GUN GIRL. Set a clear early pace and repelled challenges to win a third-level dirt sprint on Friday.

CHARLES TOWN

FIRST STAR: LITTLE BIT OF THAT. Upset 1-10 favorite Overnight Pow Wow with a gate-to-wire effort in an allowance dash on Thursday, boosting her sesson record to 5-for-6.

SECOND STAR: PASCALINE. This 1-10 shot lived up to the hype, as he easily swooped the field to win a West Virginia-bred allowance sprint on Thursday.

THIRD STAR: GREEN EYED MONSTER. Led all the way in an impressive first-level sprint win on Friday.

DELAWARE PARK

FIRST STAR: REGALED. Made her return to the Mid-Atlantic a winning one in the DelCap.

SECOND STAR: COOKE CREEK. It took a while for him to return to the winner’s circle in a sfakes race; as it turned out, all he needed was a return to Delaware.

THIRD STAR: SILVER SLUGGER. Lasted on the lead and continued a strong campaign in the Wilmington.

MEADOWLANDS

FIRST STAR: PEONY. Earned her third consecutive win in a starter optional claiming sprint on Saturday.

SECOND STAR: GIANT JAMES. One race prior on Saturday, this gelding came from off the pace to win a Jersey-bred allowance contest.

THIRD STAR: YES MY LADY LINO. Went gate-to-wire in a route for Jersey-bred fillies and mares on Friday.

PARX RACING

FIRST STAR: FEELING WOOZY. Tuned up for the Maryland Million Classic with a gate-to-wire win in a second-level route on Monday.

SECOND STAR: JEANNE MARIE. Rated off the pace and drew away to win a second-level route last Monday.

THIRD STAR: MYCHEL SANCHEZ. Won four races on Tuesday, including the first three races on the program.
