Ultimate Love puts spotless record on the line in Selima
Undefeated Ultimate Love headlines Saturday’s $125,000 Selima Stakes at Laurel Park, where she’ll square off with a pair of Graham Motion trainees.
Ultimate Love, a Live Oak Plantation homebred by Curlin, has dazzled in two starts for trainer Michael Trombetta, taking her Colonial debut by nearly three lengths before romping by 6 ¾ lengths in a Laurel allowance.
“What I like about this filly is that I think she’s going to be a mile-and-an-eighth, mile-and-a-quarter type of filly,” Trombetta said. Jorge Ruiz will ride from post three.

Ultimate Love is the tepid 3-1 morning line favorite.
Graham Motion counters with a pair of promising fillies.
Amberia (7-2), a European import for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Ken Reimer, makes her U.S. debut after competing at Royal Ascot most recently. She has a win from three starts, all in England.
“She seems pretty classy,” Motion noted. “Hopefully, she’s fit enough. I’ve only given her the two [workouts]. But it’s the time of year where you need to find out what you’ve got.”
Amberia drew post eight with Victor Carrasco, who drove up to Fair Hill to breeze the filly, aboard.
Just inside her is stablemate Autonome, a Wertheimer et Frere homebred who broke through at Delaware Park in her third start when adding blinkers. Kevin Gomez rides the improving Munnings filly from post seven, and she is 30-1 on the morning line.
“The blinkers definitely helped, but also having the racing experience [helped her improve],” Motion added.
Other notables include Saratoga maiden runner-up Celebrity Warrior; Lovely Grey for Kelsey Danner; the Joe Sharp-trained Oscar’s Encore, beaten three lengths in a $1 million Kentucky Downs juvenile stake; and the Mike Maker-trained Beach Ballad, still a maiden after four starts against top competition.
The Selima is the 10th on an 11-race program that kicks off 12:10 p.m.
