Mid-Atlantic three stars: August 25, 2025

Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.

Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:

REGION’S BEST

Banishing

FIRST STAR: BANISHING. The eyes of the racing world were transfixed upon Charles Town on Friday night, as the track played host to their signature event, the Charles Town Classic. Banishing picked up his fourth stakes win of the year by 2 1/4 lengths, taking advantage of a contested early pace. Favorites Skippylongstocking and Komorebino Omoride raced on the early lead, while Banishing drafted in sixth. Those two began to tire on the far turn, and Banishing took advantage, moving up the backstretch in the center of the track and gaining control, control he would not relinquish. He added the Classic to a burgeoning 2025 resume which also includes wins in the Byerly Turk Stakes, the Oaklawn Mile, and the Jeff Hall Memorial Stakes. He ran the 1 1/8 miles in 1:53.26 for trainer David Jacobson, who co-owns with Larry Roman. Tyler Gaffalione had the winning ride.

SECOND STAR: INDY BAY. One race prior, 3-year-old fillies ran seven furlongs in the Charles Town Oaks. Indy Bay broke from the rail and rated off early leader Andrea on the inside. As they rounded the final turn, Indy Bay made a three-wide move, moving in tandem with Vodka With a Twist. She outkicked all her foes and won by 1 3/4 lengths for her fourth victory in her last five races. She’s owned by C2 Racing Stable LLC, Paul Braverman, and Tim Pinch, trained by Saffie Joseph- who also saddled third-place Andrea and fourth-place Paradise City- and ridden by Irad Ortiz.

THIRD STAR: BARBADIAN RUNNER. Maryland-bred Barbadian Runner continued his fantastic 3-year-old campaign in Friday’s Robert Hilton Memorial Stakes at Charles Town. He rallied from nine lengths out of it to win by 2 3/4 lengths, as Faster Gator and Neoequos, both ofnwhom contested the early pace, proved no match. The winner, by former Maryland and current West Virginia stallion Barbados and bred by Shamrock Farm, has won four stakes races this year, also taking the Miracle Wood Stakes, the Spectacular Bid Stakes, and the Jersey Derby. He’s owned by AJ Will Win Stables LLC, trained by Henry Walters, and ridden by Forest Boyce.
