Emergency management camp group visits Laurel Park
The Maryland Jockey Club (TMJC), in partnership with the Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), recently hosted campers from the HERoes on the HERizon program for a morning at Laurel Park.
HERoes on the HERizon is an annual free week-long summer program designed to encourage young women in high school and college to explore careers in emergency management and public safety. This unique program offers participants the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, interactive workshops and field trips led by industry professionals. HERoes on the HERizon is open to all young women in high school and college in Maryland.
On Friday, July 18, campers were greeted at Laurel Park by Maj. Michael Singletary, TMJC Vice President, Security, and Jeffrey Kreimer, Director of Health and Safety. Along with a hands-on tour of the track ambulance, the campers discussed safety protocols during visits to the Jockeys’ Room, the Paddock, the Surveillance Department and the Backstretch Area.
“Laurel Park is deeply committed to serving our community,” said Dan Illman, Director of Communications for TMJC. “The HERoes on the HERizon camp gives young women a tremendous opportunity to learn about public safety as well as pursuing avenues for future careers in emergency management. I would like to thank Preeti Emrick, Director of Anne Arundel County OEM, for coordinating this fun and educational event.”
