Thursday’s sixth race at Delaware Park, the $125,000 Dashing Beauty Stakes, brings together a compact but diverse field of six fillies and mares set to zip six furlongs on the main track. Headlining the group is multiple graded stakes winner Mystic Lake, who ships in for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. as the overwhelming 3-5 morning-line favorite.

Mystic Lake, a 4-year-old daughter of Mo Town, has amassed over $1.1 million in earnings and boasts two Grade 2 wins, including in last year’s Charles Town Oaks. She took the Memorial Day Sprint at Lone Star Park with ease following a couple of tough outings in Grade 1 company and looms the one to beat if she runs back to that form.

Linda Rice sends out the seasoned St. Benedicts Prep, a hard-trying Kentucky-bred who had placed in stakes five times without breaking through for a victory at that level – until June 28. That day she decisively won Laurel’s Alma North Stakes and is likely to provide the sternest challenge to Mystic Lake.

Leading rider Jaime Rodriguez is in the irons.

Among the longer shots, Safe Trust looks to rebound from a poor effort last time after breaking slowly in the grassy Stormy Blues. She’s best known for being elevated to first in the Beyond the Wire earlier this season and should appreciate returning to the main track.

Admiral Hopper, primarily a turf and synthetic runner, has class but must prove herself on the dirt. She did finish third on the main track in Laurel’s Primonetta in April. Lightly raced M J’s Yoshida, a debut winner at Tampa, was well beaten in her New York allowance try and faces a steep class test here.

Girls Weekend, a two-time winner, could be an interesting outsider. She faded in a salty Churchill Downs allowance last time but might move forward in her third start off the layoff.

With Mystic Lake towering over the field on paper, the Dashing Beauty may come down to whether anyone can keep up with her early speed — or capitalize should she falter late. Post time is 3:10 p.m. EDT.
