Dream On scores in G3 Penn Mile
After two weather-related postponements that pushed the Grade 3 Penn Mile back by nearly a month, the 2025 edition of Penn National’s marquee event finally went off Friday evening—and it was worth the wait for Dream On and his connections.
Showing courage and determination, Dream On rallied from off the pace to post a determined half-length victory, securing his first graded stakes win and logging his second consecutive stakes score. Ridden confidently by Hall of Famer Javier Castellano, the 3-year-old bay colt trained by Mark Casse surged through an opening between horses in mid-stretch and pulled clear late to stop the clock in 1:35.62 over a yielding turf course.

Dream On, sent off as the 2-1 second choice, sat last early in the compact five-horse field after three scratches reduced the lineup from eight. Patiently handled early, he advanced two-wide on the far turn, then split rivals with authority inside the final furlong to take control. Cairo Caper, at 15-1, closed strongly on the outside to grab second, edging Out On Bail, who had pressed the pace throughout.
Bred in Kentucky by Aaron and Marie Jones LLC and purchased for $380,000 as a 2-year-old in training, Dream On now boasts four wins from nine starts and career earnings over $487,000 for owner D. J. Stable LLC. This victory marks his first graded score and builds upon his recent stakes win at Aqueduct in April.
Favored Mi Bago, also trained by Casse, faded late after setting the early pace, while longshot Panagiotis trailed throughout.
Dream On returned $6.00 to his backers as the second choice and topped an exacta worth $17.40 for a one-dollar wager.
One race prior, Laurelin edged away from rivals to win by 1 ¼ lengths in the Penn Oaks for three-year-old fillies, stopping the clock in 1:35.54 for a mile on turf.
Laurelin, now 4-for-4 in her young career, is trained by Graham Motion for Newstead Stables. She was ridden to victory by Jorge Ruiz.
