Duncan Idaho favored in rescheduled It’s Only Money
After weather forced last Saturday’s cancellation of the final five races at Charles Town, the $75,000 It’s Only Money Stakes for West Virginia-breds will now highlight Friday night’s program as race eight of nine. The 4 1/2-furlong dash features a talented group of state-bred sprinters led by defending champion Duncan Idaho, who puts a perfect 3-for-3 2025 record on the line.
Trained by Jeff Runco for David Raim, the 5-year-old son of Fiber Sonde has blossomed into one of the region’s most formidable short-distance specialists. With 13 wins from 20 starts and over $300,000 in earnings, Duncan Idaho enters off a decisive allowance score on March 29 and returns to the site of his victory in this race last year. Regular rider Arnaldo Bocachica has the call from the rail.
Looking to upend the favorite is the speedy Honeyquist, who has knocked heads with Duncan Idaho four times in the past year, coming up short each time. The Nyquist gelding, trained by Anthony Farrior, most recently run in the $125,000 Jim McKay Turf Sprint at Pimlico on Preakness weekend, finishing a credible fifth. Though that race didn’t go his way, his sharp early foot and consistent résumé—seven wins and six seconds from 18 starts—make him a serious player.

Farrior also sends out Youthinkthatsfunny (5-1), a hard-knocking 7-year-old who has not visited the stakes winner’s circle since his juvenile season but remains competitive, hitting the board in over half of his 40 career starts. He exits a troubled third-place finish on May 22 and will need racing luck to threaten late.
Time to Rock (10-1), trained by Stacey Viands, could be a sleeper at a price. The 4-year-old Uncle Lino gelding has been in the money in eight of ten career starts, including a runner-up finish earlier this month after stumbling at the start, his second straight troubled start. He must take a step forward to contend here, but with only 10 starts to date, that’s not out of the realm.
Past winner Little Roo Roo (20-1), victorious in this race in 2023, returns for another try. Now 5, the Limehouse gelding has struggled to regain his best form and comes in off a well-beaten effort in allowance company. At his best, however, he’s a dangerous closer in this configuration. Luis Batista will ride for owner-trainer Mike Jones, Jr.
Rounding out the field is Jefferson Native (15-1), who has quietly compiled a solid résumé of eight wins and nearly a quarter-million in earnings. A stakes winner in 2023, the 6-year-old was last seen fading in an optional claimer, but a bounce-back effort could earn him a share.
The It’s Only Money is the eighth on a nine-race program. Post time for the card is 7:00 p.m. Two runners initially entered in the It’s Only Money last week did not return this week; instead, Thewitchisgone will run in a Thursday allowance/optional claimer, while Hopping Henry will run in an allowance/optional claimer on Saturday.
