Laurel: In My Memories recalls winning ways in feature
Less than 18 hours after they teamed up to win the featured Fancy Buckles Stakes at Charles Town Races, trainer Anthony Farrior and jockey Arnaldo Bocachica joined forces to take another feature at another track.
In My Memories delivered a determined performance to capture Sunday’s featured eighth race at Laurel Park, a $51,505 allowance optional claiming event for three-year-old fillies at 5½ furlongs on a fast main track.
That came the day after they had joined Mendys Honey in the winner’s circle after her score in the Fancy Buckles.
“Boca gave her a great, perfect trip. He rode two good races today,” Farrior said Sunday of the rider’s efforts aboard In My Memories, adding jokingly, “I told him last week. I said, ‘You rode three bad ones for me. Finally, time to ride some good ones.’ But he’s my guy. He always tries for me.”
Trained by Farrior and owned by Jim Wolf, the bay filly overcame a bumping start and held off late challengers to score her fourth career win.
Breaking from post 7 under Arnaldo Bocachica, In My Memories bore inward at the start, soundly bumping Seaside Road hard enough to trigger an inquiry and an objection from that runner’s rider, Jevian Toledo. But the stewards let the result stand.

After the bumping, Bocachica put his mount in a perfect spot, and she made the most of it.
She tracked a contested pace, circled four-wide on the turn, and struck the front in mid-stretch before surging clear to win by 2 ¾ lengths 1:05.11.
This effort snapped a five-race losing streak for In My Memories, who had come out of a runner-up finish in an allowance at Mahoning Valley minor issues necessitating a brief break in training. She was originally being pointed toward a $20,000 claiming race that didn’t fill, prompting connections to take a shot in this tougher spot—one she had already won at once before.
“The Beyer [speed figure in her last race] came back pretty decent last time,” Farrior said. “Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good: this race didn’t come up that tough.”
The victory was a rewarding one for Farrior and Wolf, who claimed her for $40,000 last December. Now with two wins at this level, In My Memories has earned four wins and just over $135,000 from 13 starts.
Shkhara Fire set the early pace along the rail and dug in gamely to hold second. Seaside Road, despite getting bumped and pinched back at the break, regrouped well and rallied five-wide to finish a close third just a neck out of second.
In My Memories, the favorite in four consecutive races prior to today, returned $9.20 as the third wagering choice. The exacta paid $11.80 for a one-dollar wager.
Mendys Honey, the Farrior-Boca team’s Saturday feature winner, earned the second stakes win in her last three starts, a string blemished only by a poor outing on the Pimlico turf in The Very One Stakes.
“I think she’s gonna be a little better going long,” Farrior said of Mendys Honey, whose victory in the Fancy Buckles came at the 4 ½-furlong distance. “We were kind of pressed for time last year getting her ready for everything because she had some issues as a baby. But she’s a sweetheart now.”
