Picks and analysis for this afternoon’s card from Delaware Park:
- RACES ON CARD: 7
- CARRYOVERS: None
- POST TIME: 12:35 p.m.
RACE 1
6. Bird King | $300k earner isn’t far removed from facing much better; should sit a good trip just off the speed |
1. Lookin for Justice | In a contest pretty light on early zip, this one could control |
10. Hardy Choice | Ness-JRod combo 40% at DEL |
RACE 2
8. Willow Creek Road | In a race filled with speed, this one should be running at the end |
3. Intrepid’s Legacy | First-, second-, and fourth-place finishers from latest all won next out; has been working with a two-other-than runner |
9. Hammer | Class test on the shift from CT |
RACE 3 – OFF THE TURF
11. McCrakens Ghost | Shouldn’t be too far off the early pace; has been facing better |
9. Greyzer | A lively pace would aid the cause |
1. Frosty the Giant | Last couple on the main track are unsightly, but earlier tries would do the trick; speed of the speed |

RACE 4
3. Hittheroadjak | This trip might hit this guy right between the eyes; most recent has produced two next-out winners |
5. Point Dume | One of two here for top trainer Ness, could be controlling speed |
6. Auto Glide | Two-for-two at DEL last year |
RACE 5 – OFF THE TURF
8. Latin Rebel | MTO runner ticked off even fractions in agonizing defeat in latest; could control this one, too, and slight reduction in distance a plus |
13. Kaladin | Added ground on main track a bit of a question |
6. Zevon | Drops to lowest level |
RACING NOTES
- Trainer Jamie Ness (stop me if you’ve heard this before) won a pair Friday, taking the opener with She’sarollingstone ($3.80) and the featured fifth race allowance with Delaware lover Golden Candy ($6.40), who won for the seventh time in 19 local starts…
- Jockey Jaime Rodriguez was aboard both Ness winners…
- Trainer Maxine Correa and jockey Melissa Iorio both got their first wins of the meet when Cahira’s Song ($28.40) scored an upset in a maiden special weight event, holding off 4-5 favorite Sporting Lady by a neck to win. Making her fourth career start and first in the Correa barn, the sophomore Midshipman filly wore blinkers for the first time…
RACE 6 – REHOBOTH STAKES
2. Sunday Girl | Improving sort nipped St. Benedicts Prep last out to win the Correction and has been freshened a bit for this; has won three straight and four of five |
4. R Disaster | Deserving chalk narrowly beaten in two straight G3 sprints |
5. Socially Selective | Hoping for a bit of a price here as this one’s latest was a disaster when declared a non-starter after getting tangled up with starter as the gates opened |
RACE 7
3. Not So Holy | Finds lowest level yet; troubled trips in recent outings |
4. Casino Night | Solid score versus bottom maidens last out and owns right to improve; slightly cautious because of the quick turnaround (trainer Hendriks 10% on 1-7 days rest) |
6. Sway’sinmydna | Fractious in the gate before running a clunker last out; better efforts contend |
