Penn National, Delaware to postpone turf stakes

Due to persistent heavy rainfall across the region and continued forecasts for inclement weather, multiple stakes races originally scheduled for the weekend have been postponed.

At Penn National, four stakes races set for Friday, May 30 — the Lyphard Stakes, Alphabet Soup Handicap, Penn Oaks, and the Grade 2 Penn Mile — have been rescheduled and will now be run on Friday, June 20. First post time for the June 20 program remains at 5:00 p.m. The seven overnight races previously scheduled for May 30 will still be conducted as planned, and that card will also start at 5:00 p.m.

Delaware Park has also adjusted its stakes schedule in response to the weather. The $200,000 Cape Henlopen, a mile-and-a-half turf race slated for Saturday, has been rescheduled and will now be contested on Saturday, June 14, as a supporting feature on the Delaware Derby and Oaks card. The new nomination deadline for the Cape Henlopen is Wednesday, June 4, with the race draw scheduled for Tuesday, June 10.

Despite the schedule changes, the remainder of Saturday’s live card at Delaware Park will proceed as planned, including the $100,000 Rehoboth Stakes at six furlongs. Promotional events such as the beach towel and carabiner sunblock set giveaway (while supplies last) remain on schedule. However, the previously announced $10,000 guaranteed middle Pick 5 pool has been cancelled. First post time is 12:35 p.m.
