Rodolfo Sanchez-Salomon hit with 60-day suspension
Laurel Park-based trainer Rodolfo Sanchez-Salomon has been suspended for 60 days by the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit (HIWU), the anti-doping and medication control partner of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA).
He also was fined $2,500 and received three penalty points, according to the HIWU website.
The suspension, which is two 30-day bans served consecutively, began May 24 and will conclude in late July.
Tik Tok Daddy, a now-four-year-old Social Inclusion gelding he trains for his own JR Sanchez Racing Stable, finished third in a $12,500 never-won-two claimer at Laurel December 13, 2024.
In post-race testing, however, the horse exceeded the allowable threshold of total carbon dioxide (TCO2) in the bloodstream, which according to HISA’s rules is considered “prima facie evidence of alkalinization or Use/Administration of an alkalinizing agent,” which is prohibited.
For this offense, Sanchez-Salomon received 30 days on the bench, and Tik Tok Daddy was disqualified from all purse earnings. The trainer received an additional 30 days for having accumulated six penalty points in a two-year period.
Sanchez-Salomon had previously received 1.5 points for a phenylbutazone positive that occurred last June and an additional 1.5 points for a flunixin positive in August of 2023.
In a training career that began in 2017, Sanchez-Salomon has won 337 races and lodged purse earnings of nearly $10.9 million.
According to the HIWU site, Sanchez-Salomon has admitted the violations and accepted the consequences for them.
