Charles Town picks and analysis: May 24, 2025
Picks and analysis for this afternoon’s card from Delaware Park:
- RACES ON CARD: 9
- CARRYOVERS: Jackpot Pick 6, $8,815
- POST TIME: 12:35 p.m.
RACE 1
7. Lucky Gunn | Interesting to see this miss shipped up to CT off disastrous debut; they like her enough to keep her in special weight ranks, and against this weak field, she can improve |
6. Loving Gaze | Maybe it was the slop two back; prior dirt tries probably good enough |
1. House Alert | Occasional decent outings |
RACE 2
1. Overly Critical | In a race filled with speed, this one should be running at the end |
2. Gabriel Seven | Qualifies for the two-in-six-months condition by one day |
3. Restless | Has been facing better |
RACE 3
4. Parade of Fears | Fractious pre-race and empty late in local bow; gets blinkers on today |
5. Zaptastic | Finished just ahead of top choice two back but unsightly record makes hard to endorse on top |
2. Nancie’s Boy | Drop in company and cutback in distance both should help |

RACE 4
6. Oscor | Got a bit of a break after terrible try in first versus winners when fractious in the gate and eased; bounceback effort would put her in the mix |
4. Collecting Angels | Galloped out in front of winner in latest |
2. Moon Rox | Repeat of latest would make her a winner here, and trainer Contreras wins at 18% clip with last-out maiden winners |
RACE 5
3. Cry Tough | Good debut last August but makes first start since for top connex; good work tab |
4. Lil Knockout | New barn for first try at CT; better efforts would put her in the mix |
6. Hello Foxy | Grams’s go-to rider Reynolds lands here and not the other Grams runner #5; working fast towards debut |
RACING NOTES
- Four-year-old Catch the Humor served notice he might be about to be a major player in WV-bred ranks Friday night, rallying from the rear of the field to blow past 1-5 favorite Runaldo and win the $28,800 allowance feature by five lengths under jockey Reshawn Latchman. Catch the Humor, winner of last fall’s WVBC Russell Road, is trained by Cynthia McKee for her own Beau Ridge Farm and is now 4-for-7 in his career…
- That was the second win of the night for the McKee-Latchman combo. They also struck in a maiden special weight race with Mamawasagogogirl…
- Trainer Tim Shanley also won two, striking with Look Ahead ($9.00) and Bonnie Bill ($22.00). Anthony Radcliffe rode the former, and Luis Batista was aboard the latter…
RACE 6
2. Chickin Lickin | Has faced better; two-turn sprint might hit her between the eyes |
7. Wynsome Cat | Graduated at first asking on main track; returns to it for just second time since |
4. Coif | Lightbulb on? Galloped in latest and three back special weight try produced three next-out winners |
RACE 7
8. Paymengold | Pressed into submission in the Confucius Say and then unable to hold off the very good Runaldo last out, he might be able to seize the initiative up front here and could be tough to reel in |
3. No Change | The most likely winner, but odds may be tough to swallow; will be coming late |
4. Juba’s Hat Trick | Consistent sort has perhaps lower upside than top pair, but if they falter… |
RACE 8
7. Annapolis Road | Makes first start of soph campaign after 2-for-3 juvenile year; trainer Runco 32% off similar layoffs |
3. This Juice B Loose | Stakes outings dirty up his form, but his allowance tries are fine |
5. Caffeinennicotine | Just pipped after lengthy duel in latest, and that runner came back to win again |
