Allard considering next move for Quint’s Brew

Trainer Ned Allard is eyeing three different spots for barn star Quint’s Brew, a Maryland homebred owned by Paul Berube, Karen Linnell, and Heather B. Hunter.

The 4-year-old Mosler gelding has flourished this season, opening with back-to-back wins at Laurel Park, including a six-length romp in the Jennings (98 Beyer speed figure ) and a 5 1/2-length score in the Listed General George (101) over a muddy, sealed track.

In New York, Quint’s Brew has been narrowly beaten in both the Grade 2 Carter (98) and the Grade 3 Westchester (101).

“His last two races were heartbreakers. He ran his eyeballs out,” Allard told the NYRA press office. “I thought we were the horse to beat in there last time… Our horse ran super but that horse ran a little bit better. His last two defeated races, you can’t knock him.”

Nominated to both the Grade 3 True North and Grade 1 Met Mile on June 7, Allard said the shorter 6 1/2-furlong True North is more likely. The Grade 3 Salvator Mile on June 14 at Monmouth is also in play.

“The Met Mile is going to come up a very tough race and out of the two, I think the other race would be a better spot—it’s 6 1/2-furlongs and that might just hit him right in the head,” the trainer said.

Quint’s Brew, out of the Jump Start mare Gansett, will return to the work tab next weekend. “He had two really tough races and I wasn’t in a rush,” Allard said.

The gelding boasts a record of 7-4-3-0 with earnings of $341,240.
