Last chance to own a piece of Pimlico
As Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore undergoes a transformative redevelopment, the State of Maryland is facilitating an auction to offload surplus assets from the site. The auction, hosted on AllSurplus.com, is part of the broader “Pimlico Plus” initiative aimed at revitalizing the Park Heights community and modernizing Maryland’s thoroughbred racing industry.
The auction features a diverse array of items previously utilized at Pimlico. This initiative not only aids in the efficient transition of the facility but also offers the public an opportunity to own a piece of Maryland’s rich racing history.
Among the most expensive at press time: The Inside Rail bar, a sign describing Pimlico’s silks policy, a rendering of the famous weathervane, and various configurations of seats from the grandstand.
Bidding for many of the items closes this evening.
The redevelopment plans for Pimlico are extensive. Following the 150th Preakness Stakes held on May 17, 2025, demolition of the existing structures commenced, marking the beginning of a new era for the racecourse. The project includes constructing a new clubhouse inspired by Baltimore landmarks and establishing a state-of-the-art training facility at Shamrock Farm in Carroll County.
Interested parties can participate in the auction by visiting AllSurplus.com. This event not only represents a unique purchasing opportunity but also signifies a pivotal moment in Maryland’s commitment to preserving and enhancing its horse racing heritage.
