West Saratoga to be sold in Inglis Digital December
West Saratoga, a Grade 3 winner who ran in this year’s Kentucky Derby, will be among the horses cataloged to the Inglis Digital USA December Sale, set to take place Wednesday, Dec. 4.
The 3-year-old son of Exaggerator quickly established himself as one of the top colts of his class, winning in the summer of his 2-year-old campaign at Ellis Park over future stakes winner Generous Tipper, then parlaying that into a victory in the Iroquois Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs over a field that included future Preakness Stakes winner Seize the Grey.
West Saratoga clinched a spot in the Kentucky Derby with in-the-money efforts in the Pasco Stakes (finishing second to Grade 1 winner Book’em Danno), the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) (defeating future stakes winner Fulmineo), and the Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) (once again besting Seize the Grey), racing for owner Harry Veruchi and trainer Larry Demeritte. He finished 12th in the Kentucky Derby, outfinishing future Travers Stakes (G1) winner Fierceness and future H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes (G1) winner Domestic Product.
“I’ve always felt great about this horse—he has all the attributes of a top competitor,” said trainer Larry Demeritte. “He’s laid back but gives his all when asked, is straightforward, sound, and never misses a meal. He’s beaten some of the best three-year-olds in the country, including Seize the Grey twice, and I’ve always geared him toward a strong four-year-old campaign.
“Even after tough races like the Kentucky Derby, he bounced back perfectly, which is why I believe he’ll be one of the top four-year-olds in the country. Unfortunately, due to my health, I have to let him go, but I’m confident he’ll bring success and joy to his next connections.”
Looking to the future, West Saratoga has been nominated to the $20-million Saudi Cup (G1) on Feb. 22, 2025, making him an appealing addition to stables around the world.
Bred in Kentucky by Two Hearts Farm II, West Saratoga is out of the Uncle Mo mare Mo Wicked, whose two foals to race are both winners.
His third dam is the prolific Wickedly Wise, who is the dam of four black type producers, including the Grade 1 winner Wickedly Perfect. His extended family includes Japanese Group 2 winner Hartley, Grade 3 winner Bees and Honey, and graded-placed runners Ash Zee, The Reds, and Zee Drop.
“West Saratoga has plenty of upside going forward, with the potential to compete in some of the world’s biggest races,” said Liza Hendriks CEO of Inglis Digital USA. “His profile makes him an exciting prospect for any owner looking to make an immediate impact domestically or internationally.”
Entries remain open for the Inglis Digital USA December Sale through Monday, Nov. 25, and the catalog will be released Friday, Nov. 29. Bidding will take place Wednesday, Dec. 4, beginning at 2 p.m. Eastern, with subsequent listings closing in three-minute increments.
