Delaware Park picks and analysis: June 19, 2024
Picks and analysis for this evening’s card from Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races:
- DATE: June 19, 2024
- RACES ON CARD: 8
- CARRYOVERS: Late Pick 5, $11,000
- POST TIME: 12:30 p.m.
RACE 1
2. Golden Gulley | Right back atcha just a week after a bit of a stinker; trainer Capuano is 1-for-10 on rest of a week or less but red-hot at this meet overall and a ridiculous 7-for-11 when teaming up with bug rider Maldonado |
3. Midnight Getaway | Figs and company lines say he competes here, but two recent voided claims urge caution; first time around two turns, so distance a question |
7. Bold Medication | Switches into Moysey barn and may get good stalking trip in this spot |
RACE 2
1. Secret Saturday | Feels like this race is where they’ve been pointing all along; major class relief in this spot, as winner of last had previously run in the G1 Arkansas Derby, and credible tries versus similar last year |
2. Galt’s Promise | Trainer Capuano has won with two firsters here this month; bug Maldonado gets off other Capuano runner for this one |
5. Honor the Cross | Decent try in last versus similar but couldn’t seal the deal after establishing lonely lead; cutback means pace will be faster here |
RACE 3 – ON THE TURF
8. Fixed Odds | Probable speed of the speed has run well in all prior grass tries; makes second start of the season |
7. A Ring Thing | Veteran rarely wins but often runs well; been a long time since she sprinted, but prior sprint tries were competitive |
4. Expecting a Winner | Prior turf tries were OK against better, though both came going two turns |

RACE 4
5. You’re the One | Should get a lively pace to run at; has run well at DEL |
7. Miss Betty | Not entirely sold on what this mare has been beating at MNR but she sure has done it nicely; could be speed of the speed |
3. Sea Art | Was up against it in last in 3-horse field with a 1-20 favorite; race shape points towards better effort here |
RACE 5 – ON THE TURF
9. Mo’s Vino Mesa | Should be a handful if drawing in off the AE; gets multi-level class relief after credible tries |
1. Tres Francais | Willing try in last to be second while unable to reel in loose leader; two of four to run back graduated next out |
6. Coach Caley | No excuse in last when fading badly after being up close to modest pace; blinkers off for a barn that wins 23% first off the claim |
5. Thendara’s Lost | Race shape did her no favors in last but earlier efforts fit |
Racing Notes
- A couple of upsets, including 17-1 On the Mark, with Tais Lyapustina up for Rudy Sanchez-Salomon, helped trigger an $11,000 carryover into today for the late Pick 5…
- Rollercoaster Man won Saturday’s fifth, a claiming event on the turf, to help trainer Kerri Raven run her record at the meet to four wins from five starts…
RACE 6
2. Auto Glide | Formful sort has won two straight, including N1X at Oaklawn that produced a next-out Churchill Downs allowance winner; probably will have work to do late but should be rolling in the lane |
4. Your Analysis | Good effort in last out versus N2X foes at Lrl when grinding run wore down leader but could not contain late-closing winner; first since March 30 for a barn that’s off to a good start at Delaware |
1. Get Set | Very good recent form and arrives off a minor stake win; concerned that the odds may be unplayably short; best work has come as a closing sprinter, while others show better two-turn efforts |
RACE 7 – ON THE TURF
2. Surya | Showed little in last but note it was against two-other-than foes and now dropping down; winner of that tilt ran third in minor stake at PRX next out, and two others ran first or second; best efforts are good enough |
8. Etheric | Has mostly been facing better and gets added gournd to unleash late kick |
1. Tiki Bar | Good try versus similar in last |
RACE 8
5. Sheza Nasty Girl | Easily bested two-life foes in last and not inclined to sweat the middling speed fig; rider Robles jumps ship, though |
2. La Macchina Rossa | Late-running sort has done best work at CT |
3. Survival Rose | In a field without any pace at all, this one could inherit the lead by default; first try versus elders was a mess, though, which makes likely short odds a bit daunting |
