Off to the Races Radio returns Feb. 17

Off to the Races Radio, powered by The Racing Biz will make its 2024 debut February 17 at 10:00 a.m. The one-hour radio show, which is presented by the Virginia Equine Alliance, returns for its 26th season.

The program focuses on Thoroughbred racing and breeding in Virginia, around the Mid-Atlantic, and across the country and will air each Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Eastern on ESPN Richmond (106.1 FM) and via livestreaming. Starting in late March, the show will air simultaneously on ESPN Harrisonburg (106.9 FM and 1360 AM). And during the summer race meet at Colonial Downs, the program will expand to two hours.

The show will run through November 2.

“We’re thrilled to bring Off to the Races Radio powered by The Racing Biz back to the airwaves for a 26th year,” said Frank Vespe, owner and publisher of The Racing Biz, an online publication which is the independent voice for Mid-Atlantic racing and breeding. “Off to the Races has kept Virginia talking racing for more than two decades while bringing some of the biggest names in the sport to the local airwaves.”

The program combines tips and advice on betting horse racing, news from the sport, and interviews and conversations with major racing newsmakers.

Saturday’s show will include interviews with trainers Steve Asmussen and Butch Reid. Asmussen, a member of the National Racing Hall of Fame, has two runners in Saturday’s Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes, an important stop on the road to the Triple Crown. That includes morning line favorite Track Phanton.

Coming off a career year, Reid will send out Disco Ebo in Saturday’s Grade 3 Barbara Fritchie Stakes at Laurel Park. He also is the conditioner of recent Withers Stakes winner Uncle Heavy, who is in position, with another strong outing, to earn a spot in the Kentucky Derby.

In addition to the real-time ways to listen to Off to the Races, each episode will also be archived on The Racing Biz (www.theracingbiz.com).
