Twisted Ride, Morning Matcha take Parx stakes

Make it two straight stakes triumphs – and four wins in a row overall – for Twisted Ride.

The four-year-old Pennsylvania-bred Great Notion gelding posted a gritty, front-running score in Monday’s $100,000 Page McKenney Handicap for Pennsylvania-breds at Parx Racing. He completed the seven furlongs on a fast main track in 1:25.81.

Under jockey Andy Hernandez, Twisted Ride was hounded by Smooth B early and confronted inside and outside by Beren and Uncle Ernie late. But he was resolute throughout, holding off Uncle Ernie by a nose, with Beren – now over $850,000 in career earnings – three parts of a length back in third.

Twisted Ride is trained by Michael Moore for owner-breeder Kasey K Racing Stable and partners Michael Day and Final Turn Racing Stable LLC. He’s now won four of five starts this year and seven of 14 overall to build a bankroll of $349,378. The win was his third in stakes company.

Twisted Ride paid $14.60 to win and topped a two-dollar exacta that returned $60.20 with the 9-5 favorite underneath.

The Page McKenney was one of two PA-bred stakes offered today at Parx, joined by the seven-furlong Unique Bella for fillies and mares.

That came one race prior, and it turned into the Butch Reid Show. Three scratches left just four runners in the Unique Bella, and horses trained by Reid – and owned in whole or in part by LC Racing LLC – ran one-two-three.

Ultimately, 9-5 second choice Morning Matcha and jockey Paco Lopez overpowered 3-10 favorite Disco Ebo to win by two lengths in 1:25.32 for seven furlongs. It was eight more lengths back to Ninetyprcentbrynn in third.

The win gave Morning Matcha, a four-year-old Central Banker filly, three career stakes wins. She has five overall victories and $713,390 in earnings from 18 career starts. Owned by LC Racing, Cash Is King LLC, and Gary Barber, Morning Matcha, an $18,000 yearling purchase, has placed in three graded stakes and was second in last year’s Grade 1 Cotillion over the strip.
