Standing Point raced wide the whole way and was bothered as he battled his way down the stretch but none of that made any difference as the Point Given offspring posted an 80-1 surprise in Friday’s third race at Laurel Park.

Making his second start at Laurel for trainer Pat Vassallo, Sr. after racing at Suffolk Downs this summer, Standing Point carried Christian Santiago Reyes to a 2-1/4 length victory in 1:13.26 for the 6-furlong distance. C V Outlaw, who bumped the winner, nipped Hero’s Notion for second.

The 4-year-old paid $162.20 and topped a $769.20 exacta, a $1,097.80 trifecta and a $2,273.30 superfecta.
