Three jockeys did most of the winning at Laurel Park yesterday.  Alex Cintron won three races (aboard the amusingly named Hope in Your Rope in the first, Marriage Fever in the fourth, and Chance Encounter in the eighth), while Forest Boyce and Victor Carrasco took two each…

Two of Cintron’s three wins — Hope in Your Rope and Marriage Fever — were for trainer Hamilton Smith

It took seven races, but Der Boss left the maiden ranks yesterday when he took down a maiden special weight event in the sixth.  The nicely bred, four year-old son of Street Boss had finished second in five of his first six starts and third once for trainer Tim Tullock before yesterday’s 1 1/4 length win.  Connemara Coast ran second, and it was a long way back to the rest of the field.  The race was run in a solid 1:25 2/5 for seven furlongs…

The outside was the place to be in yesterday’s races; only one of nine winners took the rail route, and that one, maiden winner It’s Gonna Be Huge in the ninth, won by just a half-length. Most of the others were three and four wide most of the way.  Horses who may have run well against a bias include Big Apple Brit in the first, Connemara Coast in the sixth, and Penn’s Grant in the seventh…

Speaking of track biases, most of the winners were off the rail at Charles Town yesterday evening, as well.  That included Surf Diva (49.90-1) who upset the nightcap, a $5,000  lifetime claimer and a race in which the first five finishers were within 3/4 of a length.  Surf Diva, seven wide on the turn, got up in the final jump over 53.90-1 Vivette, keying a $1,541 exacta.  Favored Moon Glo Mae, who set the pace on the inside, was third…

Surf Diva’s win was the second of the evening for rider Arnaldo Bocachica, who also took the eighth aboard Go Maire Tu.  Jevian Toledo was the evening’s other two-time winner among the jocks…

Mr. Prankster won the fifth last night, an allowance/optional claimer.  The five year-old son of It’s No Joke got up by a nose at 7-2 odds.  Entered for the $12,500 tag last night, Mr. Prankster was briefly on the 2012 Triple Crown trail.  He won the Turfway Prevue that year and followed that with a win in the WEBN Stakes.  He then ran fourth, as the 4-5 favorite, in the Battaglia Memorial at the same track, before running poorly in that year’s Grade 3 Spiral, won by Went the Day Well…

No such outside bias at Penn National, where horses won outside and inside, among them 31.10-1 I Got a Headache, who took the opener under David Cora for trainer Bruce Kravets.  The gelded son of Gators and Bears took the group of claimers all the way…

Dropping into claiming company for the first time certainly agreed with Citi’s Barometer.  The son of Changeintheweather left the gate on top and never looked back en route to an eye-popping 14-length win under rider Kaylia Albright.  The horse, trained by Dona Albrightpaid $15.40 to win and has now won two of nine career starts.  Running time for a mile and 70 yards was a solid 1:43 2/5…
