Gabby Gaudet’s got some thoughts on late Pick 3 play.

There are no carryovers in Sunday’s Laurel Park racing, but still plenty of action at the central Maryland oval.

Maryland racing analyst Gabby Gaudet shares her thoughts on a late Pick 3, starting with race 6.  The sequence includes a maiden race for two-year-olds, a first-level allowance on the turf for older horses, and a maiden claimer on the turf.

GABBY’S RACING NOTES

[su_list icon=”icon: check”].

  • Race 6 — We don’t see a lot million-dollar maidens around here but we will in #3 Espresso Time (9-5), a daughter of Tapit who’s the first foal out of G3 winner (and G1-placed) Super Espresso; this is a horse you can’t ignore, but she’ll probably go off at a short price, and you have to wonder: if trainer Graham Motion loved her, would she be at Saratoga rather than here?… The sleeper here is #6 Stormy Arch Tko (10-1), who’s been working fast and was well bet in her debut but lost all chance after lunging at the break; she gets blinkers and might improve dramatically… Top choice here is #9 Jump for Love (7-2), a Rodney Jenkins trainee who has plenty of precocity in her pedigree.
  • Race 7 — I really like #5 Access to the Moon (8-1) in here; I don’t think she liked the boggy conditions last out, and I think she ran really well two back at Pimlico, a gritty third. Plus, I think the slightly shorter distance today might be perfect for her… No reason #2 Intrepid Alex (4-1) can’t give a good accounting of herself in here; Cursive ran huge to win that last race, where this runner was second, and that was a pretty good allowance field.
  • Race 8 — This is a race where you can close your eyes, point at the page, and have as good a chance as any in finding the winner.  There’s a combination of horses trying the turf for the first time and turfers dropping in class to this low, $12,500 level that makes this a tricky play.
