Works, entries, and results for the Midlantic-breds nominated to the Triple Crown.  The latest:

The big statement of the weekend — among the mid-Atlantic set, at least — was made by Virginia-bred Stellar Wind.  The daughter of Curlin-Evening Star, by Malibu Moon won for the third time in four starts, romping to a five-length win in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks.  It was her second graded stakes win and her third win overall in four starts.

In the Oaks, Stellar Wind, the 6-5 favorite, broke a bit slowly and dawdled in the last in the early going.  She shifted outside down the backstretch, made a three-wide move into second rounding the turn for home, and drew off for the comfortable score under Victor Espinoza.  She was bred by Keswick Stables and Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC and these days is owned by Hronis Racing LLC and trained by John Sadler.

As for the future, Sadler said, “The plan is to go the Kentucky Oaks (May 1). That’s the idea. It’s a month away so the spacing is right. Hopefully, we’ll be there the day before the (Kentucky) Derby.”

The only other Midlantic-bred nominated to the Triple Crown in action this weekend was Ruby’s Love, who finished fourth in a maiden event at Penn National.
