Haras du Mezeray & Skymarc Farm’s Aigue Marine set a track record for mile and three-eighths on the grass with her victory in the $200,000 Grade III Robert G. Dick Memorial at Delaware Park today.
With Kendrick Carmouche aboard, the 5-year-old daughter of Galileo covered the distance in 2:14.71 over a firm turf course. The previous record was 2:15.62 set by King James in 1997. Aigue Marine, a Great Britain-bred conditioned by Christophe Clement, won by a 1 ¾-lengths and returned $5.80 as the favorite in the field of twelve.
Topic, with Jose Caraballo aboard, finished second, but was disqualified and placed ninth for interference in the stretch following a stewards inquiry and objection by Kerwin Clark, the rider of Starstruck. Concise, with Angel Serpa, was placed second and Always Kitten, with Daniel Centeno, was place third.
The Robert G. Dick was the first victory of the year for Aigue Marine, who has a career record of four wins from 15 starts with earnings of $299,055.
“This was a perfect job by Mr. Clement and his team,” said winning jockey Kendrick Carmouche. “I was just a passenger today.”
