IS A LEADER IN EDUCATIONAL INNOVATION.

ARTS + EDUCATION = EXCELLENCE

When we invite students to the room of learning through their actual gifts and intelligences…music, art, spatial reasoning, kinesthetic, math, and language, it builds a fire in their hearts because they know they are good at that.

Each school day 19,756 children will drop out of high school.

Of those 5,985 will be Hispanic and 3,234 will be black.

WE HELP TEACHERS, STUDENTS, SCHOOLS,

THE CAB CALLOWAY FOUNDATION

The Cab Calloway Foundation was formed in 1995 after Cab Calloway’s death. Under the direction of Lena Horne, Executive Chair, Nuffie MacNeal Calloway, President, and Cabella Calloway Langsam, CEO, the Cab Calloway Foundation began its mission by becoming a 501 (c) (3) in 2001 in order to benefit both the legacy of Cab and educational programs, communities and institutions. The members of the Cab Calloway Foundation believe the path to lifelong learning begins with an invitation to curiosity through the individual gifts, intelligences, and interests of children. We seek to build self-esteem and confidence by expanding the definitions of intelligence to also include musical, visual, kinesthetic, and ethical gifts. Our mission is to include all the kinds of intelligence and literacy, in addition to math and language.

The Cab Calloway Foundation has proven summer and after school program models both to help prepare and inspire children and to create tracks to different schools and futures. We help students, teachers, schools, and communities build opportunities for future innovation, sustainability and cultural impact. We help initiate, fund, and advocate for many different projects and organizations in its 25-year history led by its fundamental dedication to the concept that education is the key to social and economic equity.

The Cab Calloway Foundation worked with the Cab Calloway School of the Arts in Wilmington, Delaware in to create and support a piano program, a strings program, a summer program that has strong scholarship and financial aid packages, create a welcoming and dynamic lobby with a baby grand piano and images of Cab Calloway as well as images throughout the halls of the school. In 2013, Cab Calloway’s artifacts and archives were a seminal donation to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. After several years of archiving and cataloging, Cab’s tuxedo and baton are currently on display as well as many other artifacts, at the single most important repository of African American history and culture in the world. The Cab Calloway Foundation is currently extending its reach to universities, schools, and community organizations, and cultural institutions in many states and Cuba by advocating for, and sponsoring, programs that benefit children, the arts, and the legacy of Cab Calloway.

The legacy of Nuffie MacNeal and Cab Calloway is to elevate, energize, and activate projects related to creativity and innovation in education to change trajectories and create future tracks to success for children.
