Longtime Maryland horse trainer Hap Ravich died at Sinai Hospital on Monday afternoon after a long battle with heart disease and related problems.
Ravich, 80, trained state-bred champion Jameela as well as stakes winners Endless Surprise, Sarah Percy and Hush Hush Flash.
“He was gruff, but he had a heart of gold. And he was a very sharp horseman,” said Taryn Tagg, his close friend.
A memorial service for Ravich will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Jenkins funeral home at 4905 York Road. Ravich will be cremated and his ashes will be spread on the track at Pimlico.
