Race #1 Picks: 8-4-3-7
Race #2 Picks: 5-2-1-4
Race #3 Picks: 8-5-3-2
Race #4 Picks: 3-6-2-5
Race #5 Picks: 11-8-6-3
Race #6 Picks: 6-1-2-3
In this #12,500 starter allowance/optional claiming race at 5 furlongs, #6 Ellas My Love (9-2) did well at Delaware Park last year with three firsts and two seconds in seven tries. If he can match his performances from last fall, he should be able to take the top spot today. #1 John’s Promise (5-2) would be the top pick if the track were wet. He is a very consistent runner, but on a fast track, we prefer another horse. #2 Karen’s Cove (6-1) has been off form this year but was successful at this distance in the past. His past performances indicate he might like this short sprint. #3 Swing West (7-2) faded badly in the stretch in last, and the claim was voided. This causes some concern, and we need to see a race before we trust this one.
Race #7 Picks: 3-4-9-7
In this $42,000 first-level allowance at 1 1/16 miles on the turf, #3 In Effect (7-2) has been in way over his head in a number of races. Connections are coming back to earth and entering him in a more logical spot. He has enough back class to make him our top choice today. He will be closing late, and the question is whether he will have enough track left to catch the others. Moving from dirt to turf usually isn’t a problem for trainer Jamie Ness and #4 Celtic Treasure (3-1) fits that description. So far this gelding has not shown much promise on the turf but he seems to be in decent form. #9 Palio (9-2) has been off for almost a year but has shown turf ability and is in the hands of a competent trainer in Michael Stidham. #7 Initforthelove (6-1) is another turf closer that will be passing others late.
Race #8 Picks: 7-4-1A-2
