Joe’s Selections

Race #1   Picks:   5-2-9-1A

Race #2   Picks:   9-11-13-5

Race #3   Picks:   4-6-1-5

In the $100,000 Small Wonder Stakes for Delaware bred or certified two-year-old fillies at 5 1/2 furlongs #4 Whiteknuckleflyer (6-1) made a big move between horses on the turf last time. Now getting Lasix and Dale Capuano wins at 31% when making the switch from dirt to turf. She could run a big one today.  #6 Cashing Big Checks (2-1) won the Blue Hen Stakes in last. It was only a field of four but it was still a game effort.  #1 Murph (8-1) seemed to flatten in the slop in last. She could improve if she gets a fast track today. #5 What’s Cookin (3-1) ran a good race to exit the maiden ranks in last. If she can improve that effort she will be in the mix.

Race #4   Picks:   6-7-3-4

In the $100,000 Tax Free Shopping Distaff Stakes for Delaware bred or certified fillies and mares at 6 furlongs, #6 Madam Meena (8-5) had no excuses for her 4th place finish in last, but probably needed that race after a six-month layoff. We expect a much better performance today and have her on top. #7 Street Lute (5-1) has run good races against tough competition and has the speed figures to compete here. She is two-for two on the Delaware main track. #3 Malibu Beauty (3-1) is a consistent runner who seldom runs a bad race.  Expect her to enter the stretch with a chance to win. #4 Alta Velocita (8-1) has been running extremely well at Monmouth this year and could be a big factor today.

Race #5   Picks:   8-10-7-2

In the $100,000 First State Dash Stakes for Delaware bred or certified two-year-olds at 5 1/2 furlongs #8 Rebel Empire (3-1) showed a big improvement when he won the Dover Stakes. Lynn Ashby does very well with 2-year-olds, and we see no reason for this gelding to bounce.  We think further improvement is in the cards. We have him on top today. #10 No Sabe Nada (2-1) ran evenly in the Dover Stakes and any improvement will make him a contender in this field. #7 Amazing Alex (12-1) is bred to run early and has been working well. Could surprise today. #2 Under the Radar (10-1) has been competitive when running with this group of horses and should be competitive again today.

Race #6   Picks:   4-6-2-3

The $75,000 Governor’s Day Handicap at one mile and 70 yards is filled with early speed which makes us look for an off the pace horse. #4 Mischief Afoot (2-1) fits this scenario. He rallied in the mud and almost beat Tappin Cat in last. We have him on top. Another off the pace horse that might do well today is #6 Senior Investment (12-1). He ran a 94 figure in last, and if he can repeat that he will be right in the mix. If speed does hold up #2 Tappin Cat (8-5) is the most likely winner. He has been improving and ran a 92 figure in last. #3 Shane’s Jewel (6-1) is another frontrunner who has a chance if the speed horses don’t wear down like we expect them to.

Race #7   Picks:   10-5-14-8

Race #8   Picks:   8-7-10-5

In the $100,000 New Castle Stakes for Delaware bred or certified three year olds and upward at 6 furlongs, #8 Whereshetoldmetogo (3-1) has been facing stiff competition recently and loves to race at Delaware Park. He looked very flat last time, but we think it’s because he didn’t like the surface at Colonial.  He often runs close to triple-digit figures, and we think he should be able to handle this field. #7 Aspect (8-1) is coming back after only an 11-day break. He has been working very well, and we think Tim Richey wants to bring him back while he is in top form. A contender. #10 Golden Candy (7-2) is almost always in the trifecta, and if he runs his normal race he will be in the mix. #5 Indian Lake (9-2) can run on dirt or grass and could be in the mix if he runs his best race.

Race #9 Picks:   1-8-6-9

In the $75,000 George Rosenberger Memorial Stakes for fillies and mares at a mile and one-sixteenth on the turf #1 Tightly Twisted (9-2) weakened against tougher in last. If she can run any of her recent races back, she could be too much for this group. We think she is the best in this field. #8 Niceno (8-1) ran some fast turf races at Tampa earlier this year, and if she can get back to that form she will be a contender. She is a late runner and will need some pace to run at. #6 Sailingintothewind(10-1) is always competitive at this distance and will try to go gate-to wire. If she can get free, she could be dangerous. #9 Advocating (6-1) ran a big race at Woodbine in July. Working well and If she is ready she could surprise.

Race #10   Picks:   8-3-5-10

Race #11   Picks:   1A-4-5-6
