Delaware Park has an 8-race card on tap for this Saturday. Post time for the opener is 1:15 p.m., and we’ve got Delaware Park picks.

How’d we do last time at Delaware Park?

RACE NUMBERCONTENDERSCOMMENTS
Race 61-5-12-9Top choice #1 Clever Triad (8-1) had an absolutely disastrous trip in the early going last time out; that first furlong was an exercise in getting squeezed, steadied, and strangled back off rivals. She still stuck with it OK, and if she can get out of the gate without getting clobbered, she can move forward today – just her second time around two turns… It might be that #5 Old Dominion (3-1) is just better than Clever Triad, but we’re inclined to take that question as still open. Though Old Dominion finished second last out in the same race in which Clever Triad was seventh, there were just a couple of lengths between them, and that rival had a pretty disastrous trip, while this runner stalked a modest pace but couldn’t seal the deal… Good try last time out in first turf try for #12 Weather Wiz (5-2), whose immediate family has a bit of sneaky turf in it… A return to the grass moves #9 Chocolate Ride (9-2) forward; the 10-year-old has won 12 times on the lawn, on which he’s a multiple graded stake winner; he’s clearly not that horse anymore, and trainer Kravets is just 1-for-34 when first time horses transfer into his barn, but there’s plenty of back class here…
Race 76-1Gotta figure #6 Breviary (2-1) should be a handful here. The sophomore had won three straight prior to up-the-track finish in the Weber City Miss, but her rivals there included undefeated Grand Cru Classe and Grade 1 winner Perfect Alibi; there’s nothing like those runners here… #1 Sugar Streak (3-1) won a first allowance last out for her third win in five starts and owns a class edge over all but the top choice…
