  2. #4 – Maverick Guns (6-1): Gaudy last-out speed figure may be a bit phony, but Velazquez trainee arrives in good form with two straight easy wins against lesser
  3. #7 – Sam Sparkle (5-1): First time in Schoenthal barn after being claimed from five-length win; defeated by choice in here two back 

Race 2

  1. #3 – Mister Hayes (5-2): Has crossed the wire first in four of five; like to see this runner protected in this spot
  2. #6 – The Great Casby (4-1): Credible try in last against PRX allowance foes
  3. #1 – Silver Cowboy (8-5): Dazzled in first try against winners, first in McMahon barn; gelded since that last-out victory   

Race 3

  1. #2 – Much Maligned (8-1): $$$ LONGSHOT $$$ Breeding says he wants the added ground, and note a pair of one-mile works since claim by trainer Hugh McMahon; two-back effort competes with these  
  2. #9 – Yes Means No (5-2): Consistent sort catches a seven-pound weight break with bug boy W. Hamilton in the irons; never out-of-the-money in four tries
  3. #3 – Sparty (8-1): Improving sort may appreciate stretch-out from short sprints

  1. #5 – Threes Over Dueces (5-1): Exits a solid heat behind Believe in Royalty, Rivington; continuing to train well for trainer G. Capuano, and trainer-jock combo (with bug boy W. Hamilton) is 3-for-5           
  2. #4 – Oldfashioned Club (8-5): Best efforts compete here; just missed two back vs. runner, Devine Entry, who repeated and then was stakes-placed
  3. #7 – El Corazon (7-2): K. Rubley trainee hasn’t done anything wrong to date     

Race 5

  1. #9 – Gato Dolce (9-2): Lightbulb theory in play on a runner who took 13 tries to break his maiden but thrashed ’em by 7 to graduate
  2. #4 – Sir Douglas (5-2): Has hooked some tough customers since arrival from Kentucky, figures to appreciate the class relief here in drop to middle claiming sorts             
  3. #8 – Cent Comm (6-1): Closer will be looking for pace to melt down to unleash late kick       

Race 6

  1. #7 – Princess Palomar (3-1): Won speed duel but lost the war last out when second in sharp effort vs. similar; has shown ability to lead or stalk, and well drawn outside here
  2. #2 – Conjecture (7-2): In the exacta in five straight
  3. #8 – Beyond Forever (4-1): Skips a condition to land here; easy to like finishing in top three but winning may be a tall order

Race 7 is the $100k Fire Plug Stakes

  1. #2 – Someday Jones (12-1): Carefully handled runner with strong record (10-6-2-0) makes second foray into stakes company, ran second to G3 winner Page McKenney in prior
  2. #9 – Rockinn On Bye (12-1): Late closer is working on a lengthy — and we mean lengthy — losing streak but never runs a bad race, was in the triple in eight of 11 last year; worse than third only once in 13 tries at trip
  3. #1 Favorite Tale (6-1): Onetime Breeders’ Cup Sprint show horse won for first time since ’15 last out, wheels back for second start in 12 days

Race 8 is the $100k What a Summer Stakes

  1. #5 – Ms Locust Point (4-5): Two-time stake winner over the strip has never been worse than second in four tries at the trip  
  2. #2 – Angel At War (9-2): Undefeated runner — 6-for-6 — has passed every test while facing progressively tougher rivals; makes first foray into added-money company
  3. #7 – My Magician (4-1): C. Gonzalez trainee won three stakes in 2017, will be coming late in a race that looks to feature some early zip

Race 9

  1. #10 – Chancee (2-1): *** BEST BET *** Shift to dirt track worked to this one’s benefit after seven uninspired tries on synthetic            
  2. #3 – Capstone Lady (4-1): Blinks on for a runner dropping all the way to the bottom after debuting at MC 40k level
  3. #6 – Queen of Schmooze (6-1): Debut runner for trainer Ham Smith and breeder-owner Franklin — Ham’s brother; connections have history of finding modestly bred types who outrun their pedigrees
