* Laurel Park on Friday there are three races (5th, 7th, 8th) scheduled to be run on the TURF. Forecast for the northern D.C. suburbs is for Mostly Sunny skies with high temps in the low-50’s and just a slight chance of precipitation, but the area received a lot of rain earlier in the week. The below selections are based races remaining ON THE TURF listed as “Yielding” or “Soft” and main track condition to be listed as “Fast”.

Race 1

  1. #1/1A – Street Miz/Value Added (2-1): Appears both stalebmates will run for Trombetta; prefer #1
  2. #5 – Becky Kecki (9-5): Magee waited for this one to get out of jail to send her out at same level after claim
  3. #9 – Solid Silver (7-2): Runner-up at 58-1 when blinkers were added in most recent effort; takes one step up in class

Race 2

  1. #7 – Special Select (2-1): The better of the two Motion runners (other #5)? LaPenta Fire Sale
  2. #3 – Hunt N Quest (6-1): Going w/ the Lightbulb Theory as he broke maiden in last outing
  3. #1 – Welcome Fairbanks (7-2): Ugly first race v. winners 2+ months after breaking maiden; steep drop to where he should be

Race 3

  1. #2 – Next Best Thing (5-2): *Best Bet* 1st time in for a Tag in over a year; 1st race since Aug.; if she’s fit, she benefits from pace meltdown
  2. #5 – Mast Cove (9-2): Chirinos get the mount back; previously hit the board in six straight as pilot for this one
  3. #8 – Simply Belonging (20-1): Class dropper after being outrun at pen for $12.5k; looking for same effort as at Fort Erie in Oct.

Race 4

  1. #3– Gentle Johnny (5-2): 1st off L. Alberts claim when steadied twice yet lost by just a neck; confidently steps up in class
  2. #6 – Jiravit (9-2): Issues at the start in last two outings; should find this group easier to compete with on drop
  3. #4 – Cosa Dolce (3-1): Away since August w/ just one published work, drops to lowest level in 14 race career

* Race 5

  1. #3 – Lightning Electric (4-1): Last two efforts were at this level, surface & distance, deserved a better fate in both
  2. #14 – Glenstal Abbey (6-1): Provided race stays on turf, toss dirt race; Blinkers OFF is key
  3. #6 – Hurricane Creek (15-1): Toledo could make a huge difference

Race 6

  1. #6 – Sonny Inspired (9-2): $Longshot Play$ 4th in De Francis Dash at 78-1 w/ blinkers off; stalking trip gets the job done
  2. #3 – Pablo Del Monte (2-1): G1 stakes (3rd in ’14 Blue Grass); 1st off claim for Jacobson who also ships in Joe Franklin (#4)
  3. #7 – Pappa Portmore (12-1): 1st race off 23 month layoff, shows just 3 works since Dec. ’13 yet he could win v. this group; Yeah, yeah. That’s the ticket!

* Race 7

  1. #6 – Star Black (6-1): Won at this level, surface and distance two back but faces some who previously beat her
  2. #7 – Conspirer (3-1): Drops to lowest level of 36-race career after 5th as beaten favorite; don’t lose the faith
  3. #8 – Emelina (7-2): Does her best work going two-turns on grass but sprints today; last sprint was ugly v. much better

* Race 8

  1. #9 – Forest Rim (9-2): Nice record at distance on the turf (7:2-2-2) but will need pace help
  2. #13 – Wolftrap (10-1): Been unlucky with races washed off turf lately; L. Garcia has had success w/ him in the past
  3. #7 – Madbobandshan (6-1): Been taking amazing leaps in class as he raced for $5k less than 3 months ago; repeat of turf win on Halloween would not be a shock

Race 9

  1. #8– Cho Time (9-2): Return to two-turns is what the doctor ordered after he came up a head short going 7f off a layoff v. El Kabeir
  2. #2 – Whateveryouwant (7-2): Nevin only ships in “live’ ones from NY; away since Mar. but nice work tab over last two months
  3. #3 – Oliver Zip (3-1): “Magic” Magee (31% 1st off Claim) has likely put his golden touch this 4 y.o. colt formerly w/ Kelly Breen; 2 for 3 on Lrl dirt oval

Race 10

  1. #4 – Precious Daughter (9-2): Missed graduating by a head w/ a nice rally in deep stretch; extra furlong will help
  2. #9 – Something Saintly (12-1): Pretty much lost all chance at start in recent outing & was wide to boot; miracles do happen, maybe one happens this race
  3. #2 – Town Leader (9-5): The WO synthetic form hasn’t held up all that well at Lrl, but it’s slim pickin’s looking at the others
