* Laurel Park on Thanksgiving Day has three (3) races (4th, 6th, 9th) scheduled to be run on the TURF. Forecast for the northern D.C. suburbs is for Mostly Cloudy skies with high temps in the low-60’s and just a miniscule chance of precipitation. The below selections are based on the TURF being “Firm” and a “Fast” main dirt track.

Race 1

  1. #2 – Oak Bluffs (5-2): Versatile runner been turfing/winning v. better; PT fav. in 5 of last 6
  2. #6 – Burning Mandate (7-2): Victim of a horribly timed ride in most recent effort; jock switch helps
  3. #8 – Joey Whispers (7-5): Last 2 races/wins were HUUUGE; runner-up in last was next out winner

Race 2

  1. #3 – Overthespeedlimit (4-5): Faces a weak $10k Beaten Claimer field here after notching 4th career victory @ Pen for $12,500
  2. #1 – Doherty (15-1): Beaten fav. in last v. similar when steadied @ ½ and 6-wide @ ¼ for trainer seeking 1st win of ’15 (0 for 68)
  3. #5 – Royal Caviar (5-1): With limited “Fast” dirt races (4: 1-1-0), lone victory came here in $35k Maiden Claimer breaking score going 1 1/16th

Race 3

  1. #3 – Way of the Warrior (7-2): *Best Bet* Only 3x winner in here; 2 for 2 since W. Potts claimed this 3 y.o. gelding
  2. #8 – Justthewayitis (9-2): “… some things will never change…” and being competitive at $5k level is the hope here plus continued Brisnet# improvement
  3. #6Minor Crisis (5-2): Allen “Claim Back” fits at this level but has yet to win on a “Fast” natural dirt track (11:0-5-3)

* Race 4

  1. #6 – Lucy Boo (12-1): $Longshot Play$ Has had her share of troubled trips recently while finishing up strong at huge odds since Keefe claim
  2. #12 – First Waltz (7-2): AE* Sent to C. Clement in NY after impressive dirt sprint career debut @ GP; bred to take to turf; count on this House Horse drawing in
  3. #1 – Future Show (9-5): Should be able to dictate early pace if #12 doesn’t draw in * – If AE or one of other two scratch use #11 – Unspoken (15-1): No threat in last 2 when sent off PT fav.; 3rd time is a charm… at a price?

Race 5

  1. #4 – Sacred Ground (6-1): After showing signs of life in past 2 at bottom of the barrel, might be regaining that back class; can boast best last race Brisnet# (80)
  2. #8 – Van Fraassen (5-1): Rallied nicely late in most recent try for same conditions as today; will get pace help this time
  3. #9 – Moon Eclipse (5-1): Cartagena is 25% “2nd off layoff”; fits condition w/ 1 day to spare; Carrasco needs to get him to relax early

* Race 6

  1. #11 – Moon River (9-2): Broke maiden in debut 14 months ago on this course in minor stake; 2nd behind Souper Colossal @ GP in Feb.; makes just 5th career start for J. Sheppard who is looking for 1st win (0 for 21) at the current meet
  2. #6 – Frisky Magician (7-2): Trombetta keeps this NY-bred at home (Lrl) for the holiday, hoping he gets a firm surface to be the speed of the speed
  3. #13 – Uncle Tito (12-1): Will need to duplicate effort from 2 back (88 Brisnet#); Serpa back in irons… is 2 for 2 aboard Tito

Race 7

  1. #3 – Bookmaker (6-1): Sent off as 5-2 PT favorite in debut, broke slow and didn’t “get into the race” until the eighth pole w/ only mild urging, galloping out strong; w/ a more alert break look for a vast improvement
  2. #8 – Admiral Gianni (12-1): FTS by Admiral Alex whose lone other starter (Captain Alex) won debut in same condition then placed in both Laurel Futurity & MD Million Nursery; nice steady work tab
  3. #6 – Bullsboy (5-1): Has natural speed but was compromised when used early after bobble at the break then was covered up in the stretch, unable to kick into another gear… if he has one

Race 8

  1. #9 – Consistency (9-2): Drops two class levels in search of win #3; lone fast track victory came at this distance
  2. #12 – Bold Senator (6-1): Don’t be deterred by the 2 for 25 record; he’s 1 for 2 on natural dirt
  3. #7 – Zillions (5-1): 3rd race after layoff; returns to distance where he scored gate-2-wire victory prior to layoff

* Race 9

  1. #9– Morning Star (6-1): Boasts best turf Brisnet# (91); should get early lead w/o much pressure; threat to wire this field
  2. #6 – Workerbee (7-2): Solid turf runner exits N2L win as both 2nd and 3rd place finishers won their next outing; ITM 6 of 7 races on turf at this distance
  3. #1 – Cavort (3-1): Hasn’t run a bad race in 9 lifetime efforts… all on turf; could use some racing luck as sub-par effort in last came w/ an excuse

Race 10

  1. #10 – Colonel Melissa (6-1): Speed from the outside takes third straight drop in class seeking second career victory
  2. #3 – Home of America (5-1): Toledo off #8 and #9 to take mount here is a positive sign; drops back to level at which she was claimed
  3. #6 – Carpe Omnia (10-1): Field is full of early speed; she’s only one to have demonstrated ability to pass others… most likely faders
