* Laurel Park on Sunday has five (5) races (3rd, 6th, 7th, 9th, 11th) scheduled to be run on the TURF. Forecast for the northern D.C. suburbs is for Cloudy skies with high temps in the high-60s and 30% chance of showers in the early morning hours. The below selections are based on the TURF being “Good” and a “Fast” main dirt track.

Race 1

  1. #8 – Northern Prancer (7-2): Gate-to-wire threat to graduate; gets jock upgrade to meet leader
  2. #3 – Sliding Lady (8-1): FTS for D. Capuano who gets MCL to Winners’ Circle in their debut at 21% clip
  3. #5 – Stylish Step (3-1): Been knocking on the door at this same level in last 2, cuts back from 7f

Race 2

  1. #2 – Captain Munnings (3-1): Farro (4:1-0-2) only entry on card drops to lowest level; gets boost w/ McCarthy
  2. #8 – Christmas Barn (8-1): Gets first run on other early speed; can hold on v. these going 5½f on “Fast” track
  3. #1 – Papa Cierva (9-5): Fresh off Gonzalez claim (29%) seeks 4th straight win w/ 10 lb. bug seeking 1st win at meet (0 for 14)… and can w/ likely pace meltdown

* Race 3

  1. #10 – Angel of the Nile (9-2): Adds blinkers for Matz; 1st time in for a Tag in 7th start trying for diploma
  2. #11 – Waves On the Seas (8-1): Blew the break in debut sprinting on turf but showed interest late
  3. #4 – Dancing Lucy (4-1): Backed at the windows since leaving West Coast w/o results; needs clean trip

Race 4

  1. #2 – Becky Kecki (3-1): Game runner-up effort in debut @ Mth; 3rd place finisher broke maiden here yesterday
  2. #6 – Rise to the Top (5-1): Zayat home-bred filly by Pioneerof the Nile makes debut for a $25k Tag… a red flag?
  3. #4 – Street Miz (5-1): Been sprinting on turf & synthetic; 1st try on dirt came up sloppy & just missed; maturing

Race 5

  1. #2 – Finito (5-2): Plenty of excuses v. N2L in last 2 outings; has increased Brisnet#s w/ each race under Goldberg’s care
  2. #1 – Back Scatter (2-1): 1 for 16 in career; 1 for 1 w/ McCarthy in irons; found niche on dirt after 0 for 7 on turf
  3. #7 – Cordova (9-2): Potts takes for this 3-yr-old who has raced exclusively north of the border (@ WO); 1st natural dirt try should be no problem; nice 4f drill here

* Race 6

  1. #9 – Lemon de Oro (7-2): Delacour goes to his wheelhouse (turf) w/ this west coast castoff after 2 dirt tries
  2. #1 – Premura (5-2): Stidham uses top local turf rider for one of his AP imports; tough task from rail & sprinting
  3. #4 – Pret Say Eye (20-1): Been an Off the Turf scratched recently; not keen on jock switch, but have always liked this filly sprint efforts on turf

* Race 7

  1. #11 – Mama Splash (8-1): $Longshot Play$ Quick from gate in all 3 dirt sprints this spring @ Tam; turf debut w/ cut back helps
  2. #3 – Cheverie (6-1): Needs inside, clean trip much like her late run 3 back; hope Conner gets mount if Russell can’t go
  3. #12 – Rose Essence (3-1): Lead “hanger” in this group of maidens; beaten fav. last outing for 3rd time in 8 race career

Race 8

  1. #1 – Todegica (9-5): Was 2nd best in N.A. debut, also her lone dirt effort; surprised Motion returns her to dirt
  2. #6 – Lasamanamama (2-1): Loves Lrl (7:3-4-0) but has a bad case of “2nd-itis”; looks like a bridesmaid again
  3. #5 – Grecian Star (12-1): Lightbulb theory (broke maiden last race); makes 1st intended start on “Fast” track

* Race 9

  1. #10 – More Stormyweather (9-2): This rare turf distance (6f) here fits her like a glove; has faced better
  2. #5 – Chica Fabulosa (5-1): 1st start for Gonzalez after claim (29%) & Toledo (38% w/ C. Gonz) to improve on 2 runner-up turf finishes
  3. #11 – Under the Bridge (9-2): Nice late run in initial turf outing going 7½f; cut back might cure “2nd-itis” (9:1-6-1)

Race 10

  1. #7 – Elevated (6-1): Racing on a “Fast” track should improve his chances; 3rd race after layoff a charm?
  2. #5 – Any Court Inastorm (5-1): Away since June but firing bullets in A.M.; both wins at this distance
  3. #3 – Cop a Tude (4-1): Motion blew the dust off him after being idle a year; have to respect extensive work tab

* Race 11

  1. #6 – Chief Exchanger (4-1): Lures Carrasco back; field lacks abundance of early speed; a chance to wire’em
  2. #11 – Unseen (3-1): 3 of 6 on turf at this distance; 3rd race after layoff; always in the mix when sprinting
  3. #7 – Profluent (5-1): Huge effort in last when steadied early, then 5-wide on turn & still prevailed

Race 12

  1. #1 – Burning Mandate (3-1): *Best Bet* Logical choice as 7-yr-old always part of Exacta @ Lrl and this distance
  2. #3 – Romp City (5-2): Too enthusiastically placed in recent race; Gonzalez must have faith in 10 lb. bug ability
  3. #4 – Uncle Carm (8-1): Old timer is as honest as the day is long; cut back from one mile could be the difference maker
