RACE 6 – SATIN AND LACE STAKES

RACE PARTICULARS: Presque Isle Downs Race 6 (7:30pm EDT), $100,000 guaranteed purse for fillies and mares 3yo and up, 6 furlongs (synthetic)

THE FIELD

  1. Honor Way (20-1): $32,000 claim paid immediate dividends by winning an N2X at IND… Caleb’s Posse filly has won four of her last nine starts, two in allowance company, but this will be her first try in stakes company… Has not raced since July 3 but has three sharp half-mile breezes under his belt… Ricardo Feliciano will ride…
  2. Natural Wonder (30-1): Defending champ in this event has won twice in five tries on the synthetic and most recently was well-beaten in the G3 Chicago Handicap at Arlington… Runaway winner of the Chicago shows up here… Local jock Luis Garcia, who’s having a productive meet, gets the call… Hasn’t raced since June but is showing a couple of works in the interim… Figures to be well off the pace and aiming to make a late run in the lane…
  3. Crazy Sweet (10-1): Hometown hopeful has made every start of her 11-race career at PID… The Glenn Wismer trainee enters on a five-race win streak, the last four against allowance foes… Figures to be dead fit after winning going a mile 70 yards in last on July 22 and with three works in the interim… Regular pilot Erin Walker gets the call…
  4. Red Dread (15-1): The good news is that this one’s two-for-two at PID, including an easy allowance score last year… The bad news: her two most recent stakes tries, one on dirt and one on the synthetic at Arlington, were pretty disastrous, yielding 30- and 17-length defeats with her lowest speed figs on the page… Will need a huge effort here… Agustin Bracho will ride
  5. Just Be Kind (20-1)SCRATCHED
  6. Jessica Krupnick (9-2): Formful sort was up late to win the Dashing Beauty at DEL in her last for first stakes score and has been in the exacta in five of six… Finished fourth in her lone try over synthetic but that was a solid try: beaten less than a length after leading into the stretch in a G3 in which #5 here finished seventh… Trevor McCarthy, who’s ridden her in her last two starts (a win and a place) will do the honors… Runner is showing a pair of bullets since her last and has demonstrated ability to be up with the pace or run into it…
  7. Stormy Victoria (7-2)SCRATCHED
  8. Nineteenth Street (15-1): Intriguing longshot enters with two straight wins… Trainer Steve Margolis shipped her up from his Churchill base to win an N2X allowance August 1, and you have to suspect that was a dry run to see how she’d take to the synthetic… Willie Martinez rode her that day and will do so again here… Figures to try to work out a mid-pack trip in this crowded field… Likes this trip with four wins at the distance…  Improving sort is worth considering in this spot…
  9. Tulsa Queen (30-1): Cactus Ridge filly has the advantage of racing over her home track, but the endorsements pretty much end there… She’s lost seven straight and finished seventh in each of her last three starts… Hasn’t been worse than second in five tries at the trip… Does own a stake win, in the seven-furlong Duchess at Woodbine in July 2017 — her most recent victory… Trainer Ryan Walsh is 3-for-42 at the meet…
  10. Code Warrior (6-1)SCRATCHED
  11. Hotshot Anna (4-1): Improving sort absolutely crushed ’em last out in the G3 Chicago at Arlington, pressing the pace before drawing away to win by five… Though she hasn’t raced since June 23, her several sharp works since then, including a bullet half-mile in 46 3/5 seconds August 7, suggest she continues to be in good form… Distance is a bit of a question mark; though she’s run pretty well at 6f (7: 2-3-0 record), her two stakes wins are at 7f and a mile… Antonio Gallardo, winning at a 24 percent clip at PID, will ride…
  12. Puntsville (5-1): 6yo mare apparently named after the NY Giants’ 2017 offense couldn’t be in better form, with wins in five of seven, with two of those stakes win on the synthetic at Arlington… Trainer Michele Boyce sports a gaudy 30 percent strike rate in ungraded stakes from 47 starts… Carlos Marquez, Jr., who’s ridden her in two straight, both wins, will do the honors… You know where this one will be early: gunning for the lead, and if she makes it, she could be tough to reel in…
  13. (also eligible) Lady Oak (15-1): Local runner figures to have her hands full in this company, though she’s been in the money in 10 of 11 at PID… Closing sort will have local pilot Addiel Ayala up, and Ayala and trainer Glenn Wismer have won with 35 percent of their starters together in the last two months… Arcano mare will make her third start of ’18 here…
  14. (AE) Marquee Miss (20-1): SCRATCHED

THE PICKS

  1. #11 Hotshot Anna (4-1)G3 winner on the synth wheels back here in what is likely a prep for G2 Masters on 9/17; should sit winning trip, and repeat of last would be good enough
  2. #8 Nineteenth Street (15-1): Expecting longshot to run a big one here
  3. #6 Jessica Krupnick (9-2): Too good right now to leave off the ticket, and win here would just about wrap up MATCH division
  4. #12 Puntsville (5-1): She’ll be the one they need to catch
