“From the Spa” returns to keep you up-to-date on horses bred in the mid-Atlantic racing in Saratoga stakes.2015fromthespalogo

Friday, July 21 is Opening Day for the 2017 meet at Saratoga and features a Maryland bred in each of the featured grade 3 stakes.

The first of these is the Schuylerville, a six furlong test for two year old fillies with our Mid-Atlantic-bred being Limited View. Having already started and won impressively a month ago at Laurel Park, this 10/1 morning-line longshot, trained by John E. Salzman, Jr., retains Edgar Prado in the irons. Limited View was bred by Barbara G. Smith and is by Freedom Child-Loves to Glance, by Not For Love and will look to go two-for-two for owners Salzman, Fred Wasserloos, and George Greenwalt.

Our next feature is the 1 1/16-mile Lake George Stakes for three-year-old fillies on the turf. Much like Limited View, Chubby Star, the Mid-Atlantic-bred in this stakes, is a morning-line longshot with odds of 15/1. A three-year-old filly bred and owned by Sagamore Farm, Chubby Star is looking to build off of a solid fourth-place finish in the Grade III Regret Stakes for trainer Horacio DePaz. By Malibu Moon-Salsa Star, by Giant’s Causeway, this chestnut filly will look to earn her first stakes win and aim to give jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. his first Lake George victory.
