After a couple days with no Midlantic-breds in Saratoga stakes, the region returns to action in Monday’s Grade 2 Honorable Miss Handicap.

Pennsylvania-bred Red Velvet, a sophomore taking on her elders, will try her luck in this six furlong affair.  A daughter of City Zip out of the winless Honour and Glory mare On and On, Red Velvet has won three of five career starts with one second place finish.  Among her wins was an impressive five-plus length score in the Jersey Girl Stakes at Belmont.  In her most recent effort, Red Velvet set a wicked pace in the Grade 3 Victory Ride before emptying out to finish fourth.  She may appreciate the slight cutback in distance, from 6 1/2 furlongs to 6.  Red Velvet was bred by Clovis Crane and is trained by Todd Pletcher for Three Diamonds Farm.
