From a Maryland Jockey Club release

The first race for 2-year-olds in Maryland got underway today and a Wesley Ward filly, just up from Florida, won the Thursday opener at Pimlico Race Course.

Jeffrey Sanchez rode Truth In the Lies in the $40,000 maiden claimer to a two-length score. The daughter of Hold Me Back led from the start with Royalty Sea overtaking Linda’s Lollipop for second. Truth In the Lies stopped the clock in 54.17 for the 4-1/2 furlong distance over the fast main track.

“She broke good leaving the gate,” Sanchez said. “She took the lead easy and then relaxed. When I asked her to go at the quarter pole she gave me everything.”

Truth in the Lies paid $4.40.
